  • Too true! I remember when you'd get a snack, a couple of beverages, and a meal, with a smile. Now you have to pay for a dried piece of bread with a little wilted lettuce and tomato and a thin slice of tasteless processed ham or turkey in it, and the beverage to wash it down.

  • Southwest is also one of the most successful ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) businesses. Their employees own at least 10% of the company and have a large say in how the business is run. The people on the front lines get to contribute to a large number of the decisions.

  • The last time I looked into airfares, they would show the cost of the airfare, and in much smaller print below it, they showed taxes and fees and what the total cost of the trip would be.

  • Slightly off-topic, but to be honest, I prefer FedEx and UPS over the US Postal Service for the same reasons you stated--less chance of things being lost, and they arrive at the destination sooner.

  • Businesses may soon find more and more uses for video teleconferencing, or similar communications, making most business travel unnecessary. The more airlines try to force new and increasing fees down our throats, the more we'll look into technology that makes their business obsolete.

  • I, too, prefer Southwest. I used to fly with Southwest a LOT (mostly for business, but it was a great experience, regardless.) I only wish they had service where I currently live. Since they don't, I've drastically reduced the amount of time I spend in the air.

  • You have a choice. Accept the policy in resignation and fly on this airline, or reject the policy and book on another airline, or find another mode of transportation.

  • Okay, I have to weigh in here. Regardless of whether or not she has experience has little to nothing to do with mast integrity. The boat was dismasted. I've known that to happen in a mere 10 knots of wind in calm seas...in a protected bay. Like many things in life, it can't always be predicted.
